Feel Good Stories: What’s happening with nonprofits in 2020

2020 has been a rough year for all of us, most likely professionally and personally. And there’s no question that nonprofits have had their share of struggles this year as well. We, though, want to focus on the good and the successes that nonprofits have had, their big wins in 2020!

Join us to hear what our nonprofit panelists have been able to accomplish this year, what social tactics they used to succeed, and how the challenges of the pandemic allowed them to pivot and re-structure their marketing plans.

Community-building has been more important this year than ever, learn from some of the best how they did it in a locked-down environment.

A portion of the proceeds of all ticket sales will go towards the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our Moderator

Aria Marinelli

Aria is a seasoned digital strategist who has a passion for marrying the physical and digital worlds to create cutting edge experiences.  As one of the founding members of the Media Partnerships team at Facebook, Aria worked closely with global entertainment partners to craft creative content programs and digital strategies surrounding major announcements such as The Catching Fire trailer launch.  While overseeing Facebook and Instagram’s entrance into red carpet events she also lead the development of complex experiential products and digital strategies for VIP partnerships including The Golden Globes, The X Games and VidCon, among others.  She is well versed in managing high-profile projects and her work has garnered millions of impressions on social platforms, TV broadcasts and red carpets around the world.   In addition to working comfortably in the space where tech meets talent, Aria has a passion for leveraging digital media for social good and has worked with some of the world’s most recognizable non-profits, including amFAR,  The Trust for Public Land and The Alliance for Climate Protection. She has over 15 years of experience working social good events such as The the 2007 Live Earth Concerts, Cinema Against AIDS at the Cannes Film Festival and the Instagram Kind Comments campaign. Her most recent project was supporting the digital release of the documentary, John Lewis: Good Trouble, for Participant Media with an emphasis on educating viewers on voting rights.

Madeline Walden

Madeline is the Social Media Coordinator at Aquarium of the Pacific. Madeline is a self-proclaimed otter fanatic, and has recently curated an entirely new TikTok page for the Aquarium during the pandemic. The channel has so far garnered over 700,000 followers and carries the Aquarium’s mission of connecting people with ocean education.. even while under quarantine.

Amanda Alampi

Amanda is a social media strategist specializing in digital advocacy, developing campaigns to help advance human rights and social change. She currently leads global digital advocacy for Human Rights Watch as their Senior Campaigner. Previously, she worked at MWWPR as a Vice President in Digital Strategy overseeing a portfolio of public affairs, nonprofit and corporate clients including Voto Latino and the Anti-Defamation League’s #StopHateForProfit campaign. Amanda also worked for Amnesty International USA where she oversaw social media, creative and brand for the U.S. Amanda is an alumni of the NYC based firm Sunshine Sachs working with clients like Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Alicia Keys’ Keep a Child Alive and Malaria No More. Her digital advocacy work has been featured in outlets like TMZ, the Washington Post, Business Insider and the New York Post. Amanda currently teaches at Fordham University and NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, helping to empower the next generation of digital activists. She has a BA and MPA both from NYU.​

 

Hillary Esquina

Hillary is an expert marketing strategist who specializes in digital storytelling and engagement. She is passionate about cultivation and post-engagement conversion and has worked on several award-winning campaigns. She currently works at Defenders of Wildlife as their Digital Communications Director, where she is responsible for creating and implementing the content marketing strategy and oversees the strategy and management of Defenders’ social media, blog, and website channels.

 

Ryan Hinderman

Ryan has dedicated his career to fundraising and marketing for a purpose, serving the City of Sacramento Front Street Animal Shelter since 2015. He’s grown the shelter’s Facebook page to over 200,000 followers, his top post reached 33 million people organically, and he’s produced stories and videos that have been picked up by national and international news outlets such as The Dodo, the Today Show, Washington Post, and ABC World News. His campaigns have won several awards, including first place “Most Effective Social Media Campaign” and “Most Innovative Communications” from CAPIO (California Association of Public Information Officials). Through online fundraising and grant contests, he’s raised over $1 million for the shelter. He’s also the creator of Lost2Found, an automated text messaging program to help owners find lost pets, which won the “Innovation Award” from the Petco Foundation in 2018.
