Thank You for Helping SMCLA Exceed Its Holiday Food Drive Goal!

Los Angeles Regional Food BankSocial Media Club Los Angeles would like to thank everyone who contributed to our food drive on behalf of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank on Dec. 17.You may recall, that was the night of our annual holiday party and "MEET THE FOODIES" panel. While SMCLA works hard all year to bring preeminent programming on social media best practices, industry news, marketing strategies and community-building, we also strive to give back to the greater Los Angeles community, especially to those in need.Donations of canned goods poured in!What better way this year than to ask attendees at our holiday party to bring canned goods or personal-care items for the LA Food Bank? And we were overwhelmed by your generosity! We'd set a reasonable goal of 100 pounds of food. As attendees came through the doors, the bags and boxes at our check-in table began to fill and then overflow.Just the sight of all those donations encouraged folks who'd forgotten to bring a can to rush out and buy something to give to the drive.Grand total: 294 lbs. of food donated to LA Food Bank!It took four SMCLA board members to pack all of your thoughtful donations into a car, which delivered the goods to the LA Food Bank first thing the next morning. It required a forklift and palette-bin to load the donations into the food bank's warehouse, where we learned we'd exceeded our food drive goal by almost 200 pounds! There are no other words, except...THANK YOU for your generous spirit!P.S. For 40 years, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has sourced and acquired food and other products to distribute to needy people through charitable agencies or directly through programs. The organization's mission is to energize the Los Angeles community to get involved and support hunger relief, conduct hunger education and awareness campaigns, and advocate for public policies that alleviate hunger. For more information, visit the website: http://www.lafoodbank.org/ or follow them on Twitter: @LAFoodBank
