Q & A - Spotlight on Event Co-Sponsor "The Hub LA"
The next SMCLA event will be in Downtown LA at the fabulous new space, Hub LA. We sat down with the awesome folks co-sponsoring our “Social Media Horror Stories” event on Tuesday, Nov. 13th and here’s what they have to say:1. You recently opened this beautiful coworking space. Congrats! What made you decide on a space in downtown LA?Downtown, in general, has a very diverse cross-section of industry and economy; our goal was to find a place with this diversity of professionals across many different sectors because we believe that this drives collaboration and innovation. We definitely have found that in our current location. Beyond that, Downtown is at the center of the city, it's easy to get here (traffic permitting) from anywhere. We chose the Arts District section of Downtown, specifically, because it's a creative neighborhood teeming with small, independent businesses, a growing number of amenities, and a wonderful sense of community. Additionally, real estate prices here are still quite accessible to start-ups.2. Can anyone become a member? Or do you have to be an entrepreneur or startup? (Essentially, what does a membership give you?)We are open to any and all individuals and teams building a sustainable, socially-conscious economy in Los Angeles and beyond. Unlike many membership clubs that form based on status (economic or relational), our membership model is based on articulating the positive action one takes to make the world a better place. You can be from any background, have any skill-set or expertise and be a member simply by sharing what you do to make a difference in your community or for the environment. Focused on providing a curated member experience, Hub LA provides a much-needed outlet to an under-served demographic of modern day professionals (we describe our members as Impact Professionals): changemakers creating positive societal and environmental impact through their work in the world.Anchored by a physical space, the Hub offers members access to over 4,000 square feet of creative industrial space to meet, work, collaborate, attend events, and socialize. In addition, Hub LA creates programming, events, and media tools for members.3. What are your favorite downtown LA spots (restaurants, bars, art galleries, etc.)?Our favorite spots are all within walking distance of The Hub LA.Wurstkuche, Eat.Drink.Americano, The Daily Dose, and The Pie Hole have delicious food and drinks. We guzzle coffee from Handsome Roasters, Urth Caffe, and Novel Cafe. Two of our favorite shops are around the corner, Apolis and Poketo; they have fantastic clothing and gifts, respectively. Really, everyone should come check out this little corner of LA; there are truly so many places to discover. Arts District LA is a great place to start for more information.Check out The Hub LA downtown in the arts district. Read more about them in this Forbes article.
