July 30 Speaker Spotlight: Erik Deutsch, Principal - Excel PR

Are you a company whose products cannot be tweeted or posted on Facebook without the FDA coming down on you? Are you a publicly-traded medical device company who needs PR help but also needs to tow the line with HIPAA and the SEC? What about the FTC?You're in luck! SMCLA is hosting a panel of professionals who navigate through these muddy waters every day in their respective industries and professions. We've got limited seating for our July 30 event - Social Media within Regulated Industries! Get your ticket now. In the meantime, let's learn more about Erik Deutsch, one of our panelists this month.Erik spent nearly a decade working with large PR agencies and boutique firms before launching ExcelPR Group in 2004. He also spent time working on the flip side of the PR/journalism equation as a writer and editor for Phillips Business Information. An early adopter of online PR tactics, he helped launch Interactive PR News in 1995 as the first national newsletter on new media for public relations professionals.Over the years, Erik has managed award-winning campaigns for a wide-range of clients - from start-up ventures to large, publicly-traded companies. While his experience is broad, he has specialized expertise in technology-related fields including healthcare (life sciences and medical devices) and digital media.Since 1997, Erik has also served as an instructor at UCLA Extension, where he currently teaches a course titled “Best Practices in Social Media for the Communications Professional” (UCLA X425).An active industry advocate, Erik has served on the PRSA-LA (Public Relations Society of America - Los Angeles Chapter) Board since 2008, and is a founding member of the Southern California Biomedical Council's (SoCalBio's) Communications Advisory Committee, which is tasked with increasing awareness and understanding of life science research, development and manufacturing in greater Los Angeles.Erik earned a masters degree from USC's Annenberg School for Communication and an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA.Chris here. I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to hearing about one of Erik's clients - a biomedical device start-up in Los Angeles. I'm well aware of HIPAA issues, and so I'd like to know how they're sharing their products to the public without violating regulations that protect the company, the consumer and the investor...  Ask Erik your questions at our event on July 30 - we'll be taking questions and livetweeting them on Twitter. See you there!
